THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE CITY OF FKISUMU: A PUBLIC PERCEPTION REPORT AS AT APRIL 2022

Dear Friend of the City of Kisumu,

DID YOU KNOW THAT as at  April 2022, in the City of Kisumu, Kenya, the:

  1. Literacy levels are 99% where over 60% have received Post-Secondary Training Qualification.
  2. Almost 70% of the adult population are aged between 18-39years.
  3. And that 4 in every 10 adults are self-employed mostly in the MSME Sector.
  4. About 30% of the working population walk to work.
  5. Almost 80% of households earn less than Ksh.50,000 (USD450) a month with 90% of the unskilled workers earning less than ksh.10,000 (USD90) a month.
  6. Nearly half of the residents live in non-permanent structures
  7. Almost 20% use untreated water sources
  8. Insecurity is higher at night than day.
  9. The Politics, Safety, Economy, Public Transparency and fight against Corruption are very poorly managed.
  10. Over 80% of the City residents do not trust the Staff at the City of Kisumu.
  11. Nearly all the residents are very welcoming to strangers of diverse backgrounds
  12. Industrial goods & services are generally expensive including housing and Food
  13. It’s not easy to access credit facilities to start and grow a business
  14. 14. Nearly 7 in every 10 residents wish to retire in the City of Kisumu..
  15. Overall public perception for the City of Kisumu is almost 90% excellent while the Happiness Index is 65.4%
